Who We Are:

Hello!

My name is Stephanie Chong, and I am the founder of FitRoots.

I used to suffer from anxiety and often felt lost, unsure of where to seek help. The lack of education and information on mental health resources only made things harder. 

Since I was young, I had always dreamed of a career in mental health to help others reduce pain and suffering, but life initially took me down a different path. I studied law and worked in law firms and finance, but despite my successes, something felt missing.

After much reflection, I decided to leave my stable corporate job and pursue a Master of Professional Counselling full-time. 

The journey was gruelling; I trained intensively under experienced counsellors and clinical supervisors.

Balancing my studies and seeing clients during my internship, often without allowance or remuneration, was challenging. Undergoing personal counselling myself deepened my empathy and understanding, making me a better human and counsellor.

Having overcome my own anxiety and made a significant career shift, I am now dedicated to helping my clients find their path to healing and fulfilment.

I am licensed and registered with the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia and hold a Bachelor of Laws from The University of Manchester and a Master of Professional Counselling from Monash University.

Yes, I integrate mind-body and family systems techniques to address issues at their root cause for long-term healing. Cognitive therapy, which changes thoughts to change behaviours and emotions, is common. However, I also use somatic therapy, which focuses on physical sensations to release trauma from the body. For example, instead of asking, “How are you feeling?” I might ask, “What sensations do you notice in your body right now?” I will guide and stay with you at every moment during session to help you become aware of your body’s signals. Along with this, neuroplasticity happens – the neurons in our brains form new connections and become reorganised, promoting change and healing for the long-term.



When our minds and bodies are in sync, we feel safer and more stable. Understanding our roles in family dynamics can also lead to positive changes in our relationships and overall well-being. This approach helps you become mentally fit and stable, just like the roots of a strong tree.


Early payment before each session is required to secure an appointment. Booking of the session will be cancelled if payment is not received within 24 hours from the time of booking. A booking is secured via the following steps:

  1. The client may book a session(s) via the booking website or as agreed with the therapist/counsellor;
  2. The client is to make payment via instant transfer to the given bank account number;
  3. The client is to send the bank transfer payment receipt to the therapist/counsellor as proof of payment.
The duration of each therapy/counselling session is approximate 45-60 minutes. Sessions are usually booked once a week, but the client or the therapist/counsellor may schedule sessions more or less frequently depending on the client’s needs.
